GUEST POST
by Aimee Laine
Too good to be true?
A romance novel has one requirement: a happily ever after. In our day and age, though, is that even a possibility? Or, is it fiction just like the supernatural beings that can shape-shift or fly or bite their love into immortalness?
Is a true romance itself a fantasy, too?
I think not.
Quite the opposite in fact.
Happily ever after is the one part of every genre of novel (urban fantasy, paranormal, sci/fi, you name it) that exists and can (with a lot of hard work) happen.
How do I know?
When I was fourteen, I met this guy. He sat across from me in the band. He smiled at me. I smiled at him. Twenty-three years later, we’re still together.
Now, is this what you’re thinking?
Wait, wait … I need to do the math. 14 + 23 = 37 and you’re 37, so that means … wait … 23 years? And you mean to tell me a 14 year old could meet and fall in love with the guy of her dreams and still have an HEA?
Okay, now back to me.
Yes. Yes. Yes, I mean to tell you that. Because it’s true and on August 13, 2011, I’ll celebrate 17 years of official, binding, under-God, indivisible union with that man. He is my romance novel hero … the one who … once we got through our ‘story’ ended with a happily ever after (actually, it didn’t end … because then it wouldn’t be ‘ever after’).But that’s fiction is meant to be … fiction, right?
Sure, vampires and werewovles might come from our imagination, but love comes from the heart — straight from it — and we authors pull from our love experiences to create these moments and emotions.
Many romances are meant to take you out of your own world, but there is still an element of reality, no matter how far-fetched the story: two people/characters overcome all the obstacles life throws at them.
We don’t want them to part ways … we want them to stay together!
And they do! And we can, too!
It doesn’t matter whether you’re human or fae, vamp or alien, male or female … the love aspect is real — it’s been experienced — it’s been desired — it’s been had.
It’s still wanted … even by me, after 23 years of hills and valleys, metaphoric bumps and bruises no different than the struggles two people encounter within the novels I love to read and write. Ok … maybe slightly different since I’m human and so is my husband but my characters tend not to be … fully human.
Romance novels aren’t too good to be true. They’re a reflection of what we all, sometimes, desperately, want in life and something we can actuall strive to get:
A happily ever after.

About Jennifer @ The Bawdy Book Blog
Jennifer became addicted to books when she randomly picked up a Sweet Valley High book in grade school. She never looked back. After blowing through the SVH and SVU series faster than her parents could put them in her hands, she began perusing her stepfather's bookshelves and reading fantasy like Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series, which she still maintains is some of the best fantasy ever. She collects books like the Duggar family collects kids.

Jennifer, thank you SO much for having me today and thanks for helping me celebrate my anniversary this week! Yeah! I’m so excited to be a part of your giveaway. I’ll ‘hang’ out if there are any questions as well as will be checking out those little white lies.
Of course the easiest little white lie is the one we tell ourselves every morning when we get up…
I’m never staying up that late again. Never!
(Yeah, right).
Thank you!
Jennifer @ The Bawdy Book Blog

“Sure, vampires and werewovles might come from our imagination, but love comes from the heart — straight from it — and we authors pull from our love experiences to create these moments and emotions.”
Very true,Aimee! I think we’re programmed to love and I think we try to battle all the odds to get it. In any good entertainment–book, movie, or TV show, we want love to win and the bad guys to lose. Romance is in everything.
White Lies sounds like a good read. I need to go check it out.
Sia McKye’s Thoughts…OVER COFFEE
Aimee Laine
Romance IS in everything.
And I’m SOOO glad it is!
Jennifer @ The Bawdy Book Blog
It really is. I think love is so identifiable and a basic need, so its natural to want to include it in books and movies, etc. Plus we all like to feel mushy, whether we admit it or not./

I am so with you, Aimee. True love may not be as glamorous as some people think (it’s a lot of work), but it’s real.
My little white lie: The phone rings and I answer reluctantly. I tell the person on the other end, “Oh no, it’s okay. You’re not interrupting at all. I was just working.”
Aimee Laine
True love IS a lot of work. A LOT.
Oh, yeah, that’s a really common little white lie, too!
Shannon Johnson
ok my little white lie was for safetys sake!! I told my son the car wouldn’t move if he wasn’t strapped in his car seat when he was little! He is so trusting that it was a very long time before he realized that wasn’t really true!!!
Happy Anniversary and I’m so looking forward to this book!!!
Thanks for the giveaway!!

Rebecca
A little white lie I’ve told? Well, I guess I’ve said I never went to certain places with friends that I wasn’t allowed to a few times.
Just to spare mom from the anxiety! Of course, she figured it out most of the time… LOL.
Jennifer @ The Bawdy Book Blog
My mom always caught me!
Aimee Laine
NONE of us went to *those* places.
But if we had, they’d make great stories for the future.
Jessica Woodward
Little white lies… I don’t tell them! Never ever! Actually I can’t remember the last lie I told, I don’t talk to people much so I don’t lie much. Or I’ve lied to my mom recently and don’t remember, I lie to her a lot

Pleeeeeaze, what spouse in his right mind is going to say anything other than–
Nope, they look fine sweetie.
Aimee Laine
No pants, anywhere on the planet, are to make a butt look big when that question is answered by a man.
